Man Scape; Do Women Like Hairy Men?

By

See all 4 photos

A question for the ages, to be sure. Do the ladies lust over a hairy dude or Mr. Smooth?

It's important to note that men come in varying degrees of hairyness - from "Cousin It" to "Uncle Fester." Some fellas have thick, dark hair curling out of every orifice, weaving together across the entire surface of the skin so that only the palms, bottom of the feet, and certain portions of the face are naturally hairless.

On others, it grows in patches - a map of fuzzy continents and pensulas across their bodies

Others still are smooth for the most part, sleek and unadorned. Some are naturally that way, others not so much.

In any case, I believe that men are just great be they hairy, smooth, and anywhere in between but I do have a little discomfort with men who shave their chests.

Okay, if you are streamlining for athletic reasons, whatever. Maybe I'm just not progressive enough, but I cannot find anything pleasing about the thought of a man shaving his chest. It's a little "metro" for me.

Some women, though, really have a strong preference for one or the other. I know a woman who swoons over that little patch of hair that 70's TV studs always showed at the top of their partially unbuttoned shirts. Another proclaims that male body hair is "gross."

I imagine that it's like bosoms with guys in some respects. They may have a preference as to whether they like them a certain size or shape, but its doubtful that they'd actually reject a woman based on this criteria.

I think that men, like women, have unfair physical ideals being presented to them constantly by the media. They feel insecure about their bodies, too. We should all go a little easier on eachother and while its not a crime to admire a nice physique, the part of the chest we should be focusing on is underneath all that hair anyway!

Cool hub and great last words! Thanks! :)

Thank you kindly, Tom!

frogdropping 3 years ago

Roobee - I like a mans' man. Hairy or smooth by nature, I'm not fussed, so long as he don't start spending more time in the bathroom that your average model, I'm happy

roobee 3 years ago

Thanks for reading, froggy-d ;) I'm with you. I once dated a guy who spent more time in the mirror than me and it was a gigantic turn-off. Needless to say, didn't last long!

Hooray for men in their natural state - whatever that may be! :)

Princessa 3 years ago

I think Ill go for your third picture... smooth as a baby :)

RooBee 3 years ago

badcompany- yikes! :) Thanks for reading, loooove your avatar!

Princessa- That one is very nice, indeed! Thanks for checking out m'hub!!!

trish1048 3 years ago

Love a moderately hairy man. I don't care for hair on the back, however, and I really don't know why ;). Men shaving their chest? Ugh!

Randy Behavior 3 years ago

RooBee - A little hair is fine. I'm just not big on hairy backs and shoulders. Its nothing to throw a guy out over though. Easy fix, I'll just whip out some hot wax. Ya, and I'd kiss it and make it better if it stings.

cindyvine 3 years ago

any man is fine by me lol

RooBee 3 years ago

Trish, RandyB, Cindy~

Thank you so much for checking out my hair hub! I've been offline for a few days so I just now saw your comments (I was starting to go through withdrawals...needs my 'net!)

Trish & Cindy, I like your angle- men are great in all their hairy or not-so-hairy glory. And, if they do have a little extra turf on the field we could always send 'em over to Randy's place for a waxing. Hmmm, we may not ever see them again tho..: ;)

blondepoet 3 years ago

Sooo entertaining woo hooo. A big nooooooooo to hairy men I like em smooth. If I wanted to mate with a monkey well.............too much hair calls for a little waxing LMAO

RooBee 3 years ago

Haha, blondepoet, I'm so glad you liked it! At least you are willing to give the hairy ones a chance, provided they wax of course. Sounds painful - but you probably wouldn't have much trouble convincing them to try it! You crack me up- 'If I wanted to mate with a monkey' ROFL!!

The Phil 3 years ago

Ha. clever 'RooBee'

RooBee 3 years ago

The Phil- Why thank you very much!!

sabu singh 3 years ago

Interesting RooBee. My personal experience is that as men lose hair from their heads, they start sprouting it from other places - the back eg. And you are right. One should focus on what is beneath the chest

RooBee 3 years ago

sabu singh, funny (and true) observation! In all seriousness, the hair (or lack of it) is of little consequence in my book. Thank you for reading and commenting.

compu-smart 3 years ago

They say real men have hairy chests, but im a real man and im not hairy at all, other than my barnet (head)..!!

This brings me to a story about me and my sister who both are Greek, living in England all our lifes, and we (Greek people) are supposed to be hairy, but we are both the opposite!

And recently ( a few years ago), i visited my real sister in Cyprus for the very first time, and she is hairy with hairy arms etc...and im thinking if it was me or my other sis who was chosen to live in cyprus when we was a baby, then maybe we WOULD have been hairy!!

RooBee 3 years ago

Ahhh, maybe its the food they are eating there- 'put hair on the chest,' you know ;D

Thx for reading!!!

jayb23 3 years ago

Great hub. Keep up the good work

nazishnasim 3 years ago

Roobee,

I really get repelled with hairy men. There should be a difference between a bear and a man. A little is about bearable but hair out ov every corner ... YUCK!

cindyvine 3 years ago

my ex was hairy maybe one of the reasons he's an ex. lol Joking, nah, his hairiness had nothing to do with it!

RooBee 3 years ago

Thank you jayb23! I appreciate your compliments!!

nazishnasim, well - you shouldn't have to 'bear' the burden of an overly hairy man harhar. So glad you stopped by to read my hub, thx!

cindyv- I know you wouldn't drop a fellow just because of his hairyness...just don't let it give you a negative association to all hairy men. :)

cassidy247 2 years ago

Nice hub, very interesting to read. Keep it up! Im a smooth tbh though ;)

RooBee 2 years ago

Thank you cassidy247- glad you liked it, smooth one. :)

RooBee 2 years ago

LOL, Gods Garden! Thanks for dropping in for a read! :)

shibashake 2 years ago

Generally I prefer less hair - but if they are smart and not too in love with themselves, I'll overlook the hair :)

RooBee 2 years ago

Sounds sensible, shibashake - though judging from your avatar you are rather hairy yourself my dear! harharhar

Thanks for reading :D

shibashake 2 years ago

lol - I'm just having a bad hair day! Usually I shave it all off and am baby smooth :D

It grows back fast tho - am thinking of laser hair removal!

annvans 2 years ago

This is good, I enjoyed reading this hub. This is great. I bet you really enjoyed being able to put this all together in one hub. Keep up the good work.

RooBee 2 years ago

lol, shiba, really you look lovely. Quite shiny and soft :D

annvans, thanks for reading my hair-raising hub (ok, I know, that was dumb). Thank you for your compliments!

erin boote 2 years ago

RooBee..what an original idea.. lol.. and funny! For the record, I like my men smooth, a little hairy is okay but this is truly entertaining.. and gives one this big decisions..lol..about preferences.

RooBee 2 years ago

Hi Erin, heehee, this was kind of fun to write and I'm glad you enjoyed. Note to men: Lady Erin likes 'em on the smooth side! :)

Chris Eddy111 2 years ago

Personally I like a man that has little or no hair especially on the chest. Entertaining hub though.

RooBee 2 years ago

Mark Chris Eddy111 down for "smooth" :D

Thanks for reading and commenting; I'm so glad you enjoyed.

Helen Cater 2 years ago

Oh my I really do not like those hairy pics you have but a little is OK. To smooth and I worry they will spend more time grooming themselves than pampering me. Really good hub. I enjoyed every word.

Amanda Severn 2 years ago

I love the heart patch on the hairy guys back! I bet that itched when it re-grew.

Sourav 2 years ago

I liked this entertaining article! But i'm not sure of the answer!

stricktlydating 2 years ago

I'm not a fan of the shaved chest either! Naturally hairy is fine with me!

Larry Ivey 2 years ago

A very entertaining hub. Reading all of the comments, it appears that you struck a common nerve. When I was growing up I wanted to be hairy. I thought it would be cool. Turned out that I am the only hairy one in the family. Be careful of what you ask for.

habee 2 years ago

Cool hub! I like hairy chests but smooth backs.

Jeevan 2 years ago

cool hub roobee and my...my you look gorgeous roobee!

Mike Lickteig 2 years ago

Entertaining hub, and the comments that it generated were fun to read, also!

Hot chick S 2 years ago

cool

Daniel Tetreault 2 years ago

Personally, I love my hairy chest. I know some girlfriends (those ones never lasted) did not like it and sublty and gently suggested that I shaved it. I did once and it did not feel 'right' to me as I did it. Always follow your gut instinct with respect to one's self-concept. I have no problem with manscaping, provided a man can still be true to his own self!

Moulik Mistry 2 years ago

Very interesting subject, loved it...

loveofnight 2 years ago

nice hub, i am a firm believer in that we should be true to ourselves,we suffer enough from the media telling us how we should or should not be.if there is someone for everyone than variety is the spice of life and choose or reject that which turns you on without shooting down the other.....thx 4 share

trsmith 2 years ago

I myself don't care either way if a man has body hair. It's what's inside that counts. But, if shaving makes him happy, then more power to him.

RooBee 23 months ago

Hey Helen Cater-

I agree with your assessment on the man-hair situation! Thanks for reading!!

RooBee 23 months ago

Hey Helen Cater-

I agree with your assessment on the man-hair situation! Thanks for reading!!

Indeed, Amanda Severn, I thought that was pretty cute, too! :) Thanks for coming by.

Sourav, perhaps there is no right or wrong answer, as indicated by the discussion here in the comments! :) Thanks for reading!!

Thanks for stopping in, stricktlydating. I don't think one way or the other is better, but if a man has hair to begin with I would rather him leave it there!

Touche, Larry Ivey - like with fashion trends, what is considered desirable changes through the years. Contrary, though, to what we might see in the media women seem to prefer the unshaven male. :) Thanks for reading.

That is a good combo, habee. Thanks!! :)

Thanks, Jeevan.

Mike Lickteig, thanks a bunch. Many times, the comments from readers are much more intriguing than my original hub. Ah, it's good to back!

Hello Hot Chick S - thanks for commenting!

Daniel Tetreault

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. There will always be people who appreciate you for who you really are - why hang around with someone who doesn't?

Thank you, Moulik!!

Couldn't have said it better, loveofnight!

trsmith, same to you. Thanks to both of you for your comments!

The last picture cracks me up. I may not be able to laughing...ever.

\my hubby is hairy - big suprise when I first found out - you never would have guessed in a collar and tie!!

He is sooo handsome and hunky I really don't care though.

Very handy on a cold night too - luvvly and snuggly.

Good hub - say no to hairism ;-)

David Adams 21 months ago

I don't care either way. Although, I was really into the 3rd photo of the heart. With that much hair I get the image of chimps grooming each other.

BigJohn82 20 months ago

Hello RooBee. I am a 27 year heterosexual male, and I am a very hairy man. I have a significant amount of hair on my chest, abdomen, legs, feet, toes, arms, the backs of my hands, the backs of my fingers, my neck (its part of my hair cut every 2 weeks), back, shoulders, and buttocks. I can grow a beard in a couple of days (though my head hair is thinning, go figure). Sometimes I get a little self conscious about it. If I were to get it waxed, it would be an all day job and very painful. So here's what I say about it: If my hair frightens you (ladies), then perhaps I am a little more man than you are ready to handle right now. Maybe you can just get over it.

Janna Jones 18 months ago

Hello RooBee. Its not a problem for me. My Hairless wombat has more hair lolzzz.

I guess its the way we have been raised. Many women from Asia do not shave. While western women do. I am personally in favor of women shaving. Hairy armpits and curly leg hair just do not do it for me.

Maybe thats a little sexist, but at 60, mwm, I am what I am!

I guess I just like my man natural, though I do appreciate a clean shaven face with just a hint of manly fragrance. I like my man to leave the rest of his hair right where it belongs, though. Just my opinion.

Sun-Girl 11 months ago

An interesting and very important topic you actually raised in here. Though i love men with hairs but the photo of hairs am seeing in here is so irritating that i will never go for any man with that type of hair in life.

kateperez 10 months ago

You asked, so here I answer:

Based upon a past negative memory involving a hairy man, I prefer the smooth chest, particularly tanned. Hair on a man's body is icky, unless it is merely trace amounts.

sunny c 8 months ago

m also very hairy, going to shave mah chest n back..Its so irritated

Barrister 7 months ago

There were no comments concerning a womans perspective nor a mans perspective on the man shaving his under arms or his pubic area or both. I'm told that if a man tries waxing those areas a few times he will never go back (shaving will not give the smooth feeling)to letting it grow and most likely want to have the hair permanently removed. Can we have comments on how people feel having hair removed in those areas.

Cheetah 7 months ago

I am a really hairy guy judging by today's standards of full body waxing. But still I don't have any issues with it. Its natural, men DO have a lot of hair and women have very few hair. If somebody runs away just by looking at my body hair...haha I would be very delighted to know in advance what a shallow person she was

Hairyape 4 months ago

I am not ashamed of my body hair and am attracted to women who let all their body hair grow naturally. A woman who proudly displays her armpit hair is a confident woman. It retains the body,s natural odour and is a turn on to any red blooded male

unknown actor :) 4 months ago

i'm hairyman but i think most of the people likes me :) ty to all my fans :) i think being hairy adds appeal to a man :). there is nothing to argue cause no one likes anything that is over. :) i'm not a bear :) hhahaha

pinto2011 2 months ago

Your imaginative writing and selection of such a common but unthinkable topic just bowled me over. Finally, we all know a little bit is okay but too much hair or shaving it off a big no-no.

almorr 8 weeks ago

I am very proud to admit that I have never shaved, waxed, cut or trimmed any hairs from my body ever, I have been told at certain times during my life that I look like a werewolf, monkey, etc, I feel very annoyed at times when people say those kind of remarks about me, they are cheeky I know, but it is just one of those things that hairy guys have to put up with. I think that men who shave any hairs from their body, apart from their face are 'sissy', the exception being male models or certain sportsmen, i.e. cyclists or swimmers, the rest should act as real men, not little boys.

DREAM ON 11 days ago

I laughed at your hub and glad to see other men with more hair than me.I have chest hair and my share of back hair in patches on either side but none in the middle of my back.More like a landing strip in the dark. Now I am starting to lose it on top of my head.Maybe I will have the first back hair to head hair transplant and who will be laughing now.I can't see it and my wife likes running her hands through it.Years ago I was playing basketball with a boy about five years old and I remember it was a hot day and I had my shirt off.He said wow can I touch your fur.I never laughed so hard.Great hub.
